When S started studying at CLEAR she had had some experience working in childcare in India, and aspired to working as a teaching assistant or in childcare in the UK, but didn’t have the confidence or the English skills to apply for work here yet.
S attended English classes at CLEAR, and successfully passed her Entry 3 ESOL exams in speaking, listening, reading and writing. She benefited from attending our Additional Literacy classes during this time, which provided extra support specifically around literacy. S then joined our innovative Food Project (Sharing Food, Sharing Skills) during which she undertook some volunteer catering and began to understand the value of volunteering for her CV.
Taking the opportunity to attend our Welcome Host customer service course, S improved her confidence to communicate in a work environment, and went on to join our new ESOL for Volunteering and Community Action course. Towards the end of this course, S had some support to rework her CV to make it more appropriate for the UK job market and not long after that, she was successful in securing a volunteer role as a teaching assistant in a local primary school from which she hopes to progress into paid work.
