VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:                            Digital Skills Facilitator

RESPONSIBLE TO:              Learning Manager

LOCATION:                          CLEAR Office 2 James Street SO14 1PJ

TIMINGS:                             Monday 10am – 1am and Tuesday 10am – 1pm. The same day each week is expected and we offer £3 towards lunch. A 6 month commitment is preferable.

 

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

To support CLEAR’s Digital Skills Project which seeks to address the digital exclusion of migrant learners with low-literacy and/or English skills.

 

TASKS:

  • Support learners to achieve specific digital tasks eg. access and use online learning resources, fill in an online form, use Zoom, send an email attachment, book an appointment online, practise driving theory, etc.
  • Support ESOL learners to identify and use relevant learning apps and websites for independent learning at their level.
  • Promote awareness of online safety including password security to all participants.
  • Set up and put away equipment if needed, e.g. laptops.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Patient, positive and encouraging manner, especially with those who are noticeably lacking in confidence and/or have limited literacy.
  • Flexible approach to supporting learning and ability to improvise and learn how to complete a digital task on-the-spot with the learner if required.
  • Confidence in use of smart phones and tablets and willingness to learn and explore appropriate apps, websites and resources
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good English language skills.
  • Reliable.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of supporting the learning of adults who have English as a second language and/or low literacy.
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Experience of working with marginalised groups
