We are currently closed for applications for our courses that started in September 2023.

Our ESOL courses are free to people seeking asylum, thanks to funding from Southampton City Council and the National Lottery. For other learners, there is a small contribution fee to be paid at the start of the course. This is the only charge and includes the cost of all teaching, materials, exams, a crèche space (where available), and access to other short courses or activities at CLEAR.

Our main courses run for 32 weeks over the academic year (September 2023 to June 2024) and the fee is just £150 (or £75 if you get Universal Credit or other income-related benefits). Classes run for 4 hours per week, or 2 hours per week with creche. Regular attendance is very important as places are limited, and demand is high.

Applying for a place

We start by asking for some information about you and how confident you are with reading, writing and speaking in English. If we can help you, we will arrange a meeting with you to check your level of English and which course may be best for you. If we have a space available on a course, we will enrol you onto the course and give you details about when it is starting. To find out more about our courses, visit our ESOL page.

If we are unable to offer you a place, we will explain why and suggest some other places you could learn English. If spaces do become available, we will update the website and open our online enquiry form.
