Hosting Employer – Host a work placement, shadowing opportunity or visit
The Employer Engagement Team at CLEAR is seeking employers and companies across Southampton and surrounding areas to work with us to provide opportunities for local refugees to visit and experience different types of businesses.
These events will enable refugees to develop their work skills as follows:
- Giving individuals the opportunity to see how companies operate locally, including any differences in the culture of work between their originating country and the UK
- Providing UK based work experience for individuals who may not have worked since leaving their originating country
- Enabling individuals to have a greater understanding of the local jobs market, the types of work available and what that work entails
- Developing individuals confidence in dealing with prospective employers and colleagues
The individuals selected to take part in these opportunities will be keen to get into work and ready to take part in work related activity, and will be supported by CLEAR as they participate.
The Employer Engagement Team at CLEAR is looking to host visits for individuals and small groups of refugees to local companies and organisations. These visits would entail a tour of the company, a short presentation about the business, working environment and potential future opportunities, as well as a chance for those visiting to talk to staff, ask questions and see work in action. These visits will provide useful insight for refugees who, due to their history and circumstances, may have been out of work for a period of time and enable them to start identifying their potential employment pathways for the future.
The Employer Engagement Team at CLEAR is looking to place selected individuals in shadowing opportunities in local companies and organisations. These shadowing opportunities would entail an individual being placed with a specific business for an agreed period, during which time they would have the opportunity to shadow one or more members of staff carrying out their duties. The individual would be able to observe how the work environment of that company operates, how colleagues and teams interact and, depending on the size of the company, gain an understanding of how different departments work. These shadowing opportunities would provide useful context to refugees who may have a particular skill or background in an area of work or an interest in pursuing a specific field of employment in understanding how this area of business functions in the UK.
The Employer Engagement Team at CLEAR is looking to place selected individuals in work placements within local companies and organisations. These work placements would entail an individual being placed with a specific business for a pre-determined time period, during which time they would have the opportunity to carry out work on behalf of that organisation. The individual would be inducted into the work place, be given tasks to complete alongside the company’s own employees and would have the chance to interact with colleagues, managers, different teams and customers. These placements would give individuals the opportunity to demonstrate competency in a workplace environment in the UK, which would assist them in updating their CV and gaining fulfilling long term employment.
