Destitute Asylum Seeker from Iran

A refused asylum seeker from Iran came to CLEAR for practical and financial help. When he first came to the UK, his claim was refused and his appeal failed. He lived with friends who later moved and were unable to support him. Homeless, andwith no money for food, he came to CLEAR.

We provided Basics Bank vouchers and with support from partner organisations at the Avenue Multicultural Centre he was able to make a fresh claim, and to apply for NASS support. He gained NASS support and was dispersed elsewhere.

After some time he was granted Leave to Remain, and chose to return to Southampton, where CLEAR was able to assist him in finding a room and basic furniture, linking up with the rent deposit scheme and applying for benefits. It was most gratifying when he later came in to say that he would soon be starting work.
